occur

occur
HAPPEN, OCCUR, CHANCE
Глагол happen означает 'случаться, происходить' и может взаимозаменяться с более официальным occur: accidents happen и accidents occur; it happened long ago и it occurred long ago. В тех случаях, когда за глаголом happen следует предложное дополнение с предлогом to, замена его глаголом occur невозможна, так как occur в указанном сочетании имеет иное значение: it happened to me an hour ago •означает 'это случилось со мной час назад'; it occurred to те an hour ago имеет значение 'мне это пришло в голову час назад'. Happen с последующим инфинитивом означает 'случаться, оказываться': I happened to be out 'случилось так, что меня не было дома'; I happened to have по money about me 'случилось так, что у меня не было с собой денег' (оказалось, что у меня нет с собой денег). Occur с последующим инфинитивом не употребляется. Chance означает 'случаться, происходить неожиданно' и может взаимозаменяться с глаголом happen в сочетании с безличным it перед придаточным дополнительным предложением: it chanced that I met him again и it happened that I met him again 'случилось так, что я снова встретил его'. Chance с последующим инфинитивом имеет то же самое значение 'случаться, оказываться' и может взаимозаменяться с happen: I chanced to be busy at that time и I happened to be busy at that time.
